William and Grandpa on the Harley

William Scott Brown was born on August 24, 1996, in Acapulco, Mexico.  Exactly 3 years after Scott and Gloria got married.

William has dual-citizenship: American and Mexican.  He can speak both languages and will be starting school the Fall of 2002.  He will be attending a private bi-lingual school in Chalco, Mexico.

On February 25, 2001, William got saved!  It was during the Missions Conference of the Texas Avenue Baptist Church in College Station, Texas (Eric Doucet, pastor).  We were staying at a couple's house.  Every night, before bed, William would ask a bunch of questions about Jesus, about Heaven and Hell, about the cross, etc.  Mostly, he just wanted to talk, so he wouldn't have to go to sleep.  (heh, heh) However, he was growing in interest and wanted to understand the whole subject.

So, we would spend some time talking to him about it, but not invite him to make a decision just yet.  We wanted to make sure he really understood what was going on and what he needed to do.  After 2-3 nights like this, he kept asking us to help him get saved.  I asked him the same questions, but 500 different ways, to make sure I would always get the same answer.  He kept giving the right answers and said he wanted to get saved, so we prayed with him and he received Christ in his heart.

My brother, Brian, was at the conference, as well.  So I had him interrogate my four-year-old son, too, just to make sure William truly did understand what took place.  I didn't want my parental zeal to get in the way of a true conversion of my son.  William showed he really understood that he was saved and that he knew where he was going when he died.

Right after his salvation, we wanted to start teaching him about his relationship with his new Heavenly Father.  We told him that God wants his children to serve him.  Therefore, we started to get him involved in our Deputation program.  We taught him a song my Father, Phil Brown, wrote when I was just a kid.  It's called "I'm a Missionary's Kid" and it tells people what MK's go through.  He learned it and now plays an essential part in every church we present our field and ministry.

William is very organized and meticulous.  He likes everything done exactly the way he wants it or the World will fall apart!  His socks have to be stretched all the way up his leg, his shirt has to be tucked in (he has learned to wear some T-shirts hanging out), he won't God to church without a suit and tie (and don't even think of asking him to wear tennis shoes with his suit), and the list goes on.

Also, William is very energetic and strong.  He plays non-stop and has always had a strong body for his age.  He is very healthy and has never let an infection go beyond his throat.  His organism is just so strong.

The athletic skills William has is amazing!  There isn't a sport he won't attempt and show tremendous signs of improvement in no time at all!  He swung a golf club for the first time and within 3 tries, he was hitting the ball...at age 4!  Soccer, basketball, taekwondo, volleyball, and baseball...he will surprise you!!  His eye-hand coordination is so good and his natural abilities are very developed, not just for sports, but for just about ANYTHING he puts his hands on.  We thank God for that and pray we are able to help William use these incredible talents for the glory of God!

William is very obedient, just very strong-willed, too.  But at the end of the day, he loves his Mommy and Daddy, and he desires to please God and make Him happy and make the Devil mad!  :-)

We love our firstborn son very much.  He is very special to us and we are very proud of him!
